Dhosti Roti

Updated: Apr 11, 2020

Dhosti roti, oil roti, friendship roti. I've recently stumbled on the meaning of this beautiful flat bread and it basically means two in one since Dhosti is the hindi word for friendship. Roti is definitely a staple in my home and this one like all the others can be enjoyed with an array of east indian delicacies that one can enjoy at anytime or anyday.

I hope you enjoy my recipe.

Ingredients

3 cups sifted Flour

3 tsp Baking Powder

1/2 tsp Salt

1 cup Water

1/2 cup Vegetable Oil Method ● Add flour, baking powder and salt to a big mixing bowl and mix together. Create a hole in the middle of the flour add the water and beginning mixing into flour gradual until dough is sticky. ( Tip: I have found that lightly oiling my hands when kneading sticky dough helps to prevent dough from sticking to hands and gives a smoother dough) ●Place dough on a lightly floured surface and knead for 2 mins, roll into ball and place in bowl covered with a towel. Set aside for approximately 45 to rest. ●Divide dough into 8 balls or loyas and dust with flour, cover with towel again and set aside for another 15 to 20 mins. ●Preheat your tawah or large skillet on a medium heat and take two balls of flour (loyas) begin rolling one ball out gradually and spread the oil on to of it using a pastry brush etc. Roll second ball of flour out gradually as well and set atop first oiled ball of flour. ●Continue rolling combined balls of flour out until they are flattened out as thinly as possible. (Tip : While rolling dough out keep flipping and adjusting the edges to ensure both sides are as equal in length as possible.) ●Grease tawah or skillet with oil and add dough atop cooking on one side for 10 secs then flip oil the cooked side of the dough and flip it back over. Repeat on other side of dough and then cook both sides until golden spots appear on either sides. ●Place dough in bowl large bowl lined with baking paper and separate and cover with towel. Repeat with 6 remaining balls of dough. Serve hot with desired fillings but most importantly do enjoy. Thanks for joining me for another session of Food Therapy ❤
