Hoagie Bread


I must admit I've been really getting into sandwiches these days, from different breads to fillings while I experiment with different tastes and textures etc. I recently had a not so great hoagie experience that left me determined to create and perfect a bread recipe that fits my hoagie needs. In my mind, its a some what dense bun that would hold up well with my fillings and chewy but soft and buttery on the inside. I do believe with this recipe I have done exactly that. I went ahead and dressed up my fresh out of the oven bun with lettuce, zucchini slices, pickles, chicken drenched in smoky BBQ sauce and strips of delicious bacon which led to me having quite possibly the BEST SANDWICH I have ever had. Here's my recipe guys do enjoy.





INGREDIENTS




4 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour


2 tbsp Brown Sugar


1/4 cup softened Butter/Margarine


1/3 cup warm Water


1 cup warm Milk


1 large Egg


3 tsp Instant Yeast


1 1/4 tsp Salt



Glaze


1 Egg


2 tbsp Water




METHOD



●To a large mixing bowl add yeast and sugar.

Whisk in warm milk and water (note liquid must be just slightly above room temp if water is hot it will kill yeast)


●Set aside and allow yeast to bloom for 5-7 mins.



●In separate medium mixing bowl add salt, flour and butter. Using hands rub the butter into the flour until properly incorporated.



●Once yeast has bloomed and water is frothy whisk egg into water then gradually add flour to liquid and bring together forming a ball with the dough.



●Knead dough using hands for approximately 10-15 mins (dough will be sticky so dust the surface you're using to knead dough with flour until it no longer sticks)


*you can use mixing bowl to and dough hook for this recipe I just prefer to use my hands*



●Place kneaded dough back into large mixing bowl and cover with a damp towel and let rise for 45mins to 1 hour.



●Remove dough from large mixing bowl and place on flour dusted surface cut into 6 - 8 equal pieces roll into cylindrical shapes or desired shapes and using sharp knife slash dough 3 time across.


●Place on greased and floured baking tray.



●Cover again with damp towel and let rise for 5-10 mins.



●Whisk egg and water, brush top of dough with pastry brush.



●Place in preheated oven and bake at 375° for 15 - 20 mins or until top of bread is golden bread.



Remove from oven and set to cool for several min on wire rack or eat straight out of the oven with desired fillings.
