MASALA MANGO (Mango Talkari)

Mango season has only just begun and I am having the time of my life. In less than a month I've already made Red Mango and Curried Mango and now I am here enjoying bowls of delicious Masala Mango. This one I remember enjoying namely when my mother would make us paratha roti, curried aloo, channa and spicy curried chicken. It was a beautiful sweet, tart and spicy combination when compared to the different curry flavors. I love it as a little snack though, which is a further testament to the versatility that comes from mangoes. Here's my recipe, do enjoy.


6 medium half ripened Mangoes

(when cutting up the mango you cut up the seeds as well and remove the insides of the seeds) 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil 7 tbps Anchar Masala 1 2/3 cups Brown Sugar 4 cloves Garlic crushed 2 tsp Salt Pepper to taste


●Wash and drain chopped mangoes and set aside.

●To a large sauce pan add oil on high heat and up for a few secs before add anchar masala.

●To masala add crushed garlic and hot pepper and stir for several seconds before adding mangoes and mixing quickly.

●Add enough water to saucepan till just almost covering mangoes, add sugar and salt and mix. Cover and allow to simmer for 20 mins.

●Uncover and taste, if the mangoes are still a bit tart gradually add some more sugar.

●At this point the liquid should be thicker and of it should have been somewhat reduced. Allow to simmer for further 10-15 mins until at least half of the liquid has been reduced or less and the skin of the mango is falling off the bone to touch.

●Remove from heat and serve hot or cold.
