Mild Spiced Drumsticks (Steamed)
Updated: Feb 10
Anyone who says healthy food can't be fun and delicious, kindly make them this chicken and they'll be so busy eating that they won't have time to make silly comments. When I'm cutting down on my oil, sugar and other certain types of food, I steam almost everything I eat. Most foods can be delicious once prepared well. That being said, here's my recipe and I hope you enjoy it guilt free.
2 tbps Green Seasoning
2 tbsp Paprika
(I prefer smoked but any will do)
1/2 tsp Chilli Powder
1/2 tsp Jerk Powder (optional)
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1/4 Onion Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
2 tbsp low sodium Dark Soy Sauce
Pinch Black Pepper
Pinch Red Pepper Flakes
5 tbsp Hot Water
●Properly wash and clean drumsticks with water and Vinegar or Lime/Lemon and then set aside in a clean mixing bowl.
●Add green seasoning, soy sauce as well as spices and salt and set aside for 30 plus mins to marinate.
●To a hot wide sauce pan add 4 tbsp of your water and when it begins to bubble place the drumsticks in.
●Cook drums on one side for 5 mins before turning on the other side to cook for a further 5 mins. Lower heat and cover.
●Allow to cook for 10-15 mins further steaming gradually. You may need to add a bit more water at this point to prevent the meat from a sticking do so gradually.
●When the flesh of the chicken drums begin to separate from the bone a bit turn up the heat and dry out the residual water this step is important the chicken will gain it's colour this way.
●When the seasoning and water has formed a thick residue of gravy at the pans base, remove from the heat and slightly deglaze pan with a tbps of hot water and ensure the chicken is evenly coated.
Serve hot with desired rice, vegetables etc but most importantly enjoy
