Salt Fish Buljol
Salt Fish Buljol a very Trini breakfast food. Throw in a pot bake and some milo and may find me staring off into space reminiscing about the *good old days* I'm sure I'm not the only one. Here's my version of this pretty filling I hope you have fun making it. Ingredients Saltfish Buljol
1/2 salted fish
4 medium sized tomatoes
1 medium sized pimento
1 cup chopped white cabbage
2 cloves garlic
1 small onion
I small piece hot pepper or to taste
3 tbsp vegetable oil
Method ●Wash salted fish to remove some of the surface salt. Then place fish in a small saucepan of boil water to further remove salt for approximately 10-15 mins. Remove from hot water and rinse again. Set aside to cool
● Slice tomatoes and remove inside and chop, chop pimento (removing the seeds is optional), chop pepper, onion and crush then mince garlic.
●Using a fork and knife chop and shred salted fish.
● Add oil to frying pan or wok and when it's at medium heat saute garlic, onion, pimiento, pepper for 30 secs or so until fragrant.
●Add Tomatoes and Cabbage and saute for 2 mins or so tossing occasionally. Then add salted fish. Toss all the ingredients together till well incorporated then turn off heat.
This can be served immediately, if the dish is lacking in salt feel free to add the preferred amount and serve with Sada roti, Coconut Bake etc.
